Remembering Paul

No description of the blended AI/PSA culture would be complete without a tribute to Paul.

Remembering Paul

No description of the blended AI/PSA culture would be complete without a tribute to Paul.

Paul began his architectural career in 1979 the hard way: apprenticing for 13 years for his father rather than going to college.  He learned the business over many years from the bottom up, which is why, according to one fellow architect, “he was completely knowledgeable about every aspect of this industry.”

Paul Slowik, born and bred in Pittsburgh, left his mark on Allegheny and Butler counties -- not only with the brick and mortar of his designs, but also with his warm smile and personal handshake.  Paul cherished his business relationships and thought of them as extended family.

Twenty years ago, Paul and his wife Joyce took over the small but thriving architectural firm when the elder Mr. Slowik retired.  Paul loved space planning but thrived on the technical end of the business. Since that time, it is said of Paul that he did the job of ten men with boundless energy.  Never one to stand on ceremony, he could often be seen emptying the firm’s trash bins or making the coffee.

Especially dear to Paul was his work chairing the Passavant Hospital Foundation Fundraising Committee.  He helped to raise monies for education, outreach, and new programs for the foundation in Cranberry and McCandless, with his trademark personal touch.

In April 2015, Paul, Joyce and their family received the devastating news that Paul was diagnosed with renal cell cancer.  Eight short weeks later, he passed, with the hope that his firm – the work of two generations of Slowiks, would land in good hands.  According to Joyce, “I can’t imagine PSA in better hands than in Jan Brimmeier’s. At Architectural Innovations, Paul’s legacy will live on."

Both PSA and AI clients be assured: you will
have seamless continuation of project scheduling.
No interruption of service.

Thanks for reading our story. Let AI be a part of the future you build.

About Jan Brimmeier

Jan Brimmeier, a Pittsburgh-area architect with 30 years experience, began Architectural Innovations in 2004 when she wished to offer her clients more specialized service to her liking.  Her mission was to be the best, not the biggest…bringing art back to architecture.

With two baccalaureate degrees, several art scholarships including the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts and foreign studies — Jan was well-poised to rise in the Pittsburgh-area architecture scene over the last three decades, managing several firms before starting AI.

Using the Charrette Process, Jan’s extraordinary client service delivers several fully developed, unique options for each project, making her firm stand out for government building and school design.

Under Jan’s direction and management, function fuses with artistry-- and these join with modern demands for green building.

Of Paul Slowik, Jan says, “I esteem Paul and his team greatly. Our cultures of excellence and personal service will blend together well to deliver superior design for our clients—in government and school building, and in health care, retail and commercial building.  With our shared vision, AI will build the future.”
